For the first time this year, we spent a weekend at the ranch of one of my girls. The girls rode 4-wheelers, swam in the river, went skeet shooting and had an awesome time. I let them do their own bonding while I hung out with the mom that was there. The one thing I did organize was a prayer run on Saturday morning.

Originally I was thinking the focus was going to be on a some specific scriptures about what to pray for each other. On the way back to the house from watching them shoot, I remembered that I needed to decide about the run. I noticed some landmarks – the cows eating, some burn piles, water, playground...So God sent me in a little bit different direction.

We left the house for our run Saturday morning and stopped at each of the landmarks.

  • At the water we talked about water bringing life and what it means to have eternal life.

  • At the cow's feeding trough we talked about God being mindful of us from Psalm 8 and how we need to remind ourselves of that.

  • Then we stopped at the burn piles and talked about confession and the things that hinder us that we need to burn. We had individual prayer and then as a group thanked God for the freedom He has given us.

  • Then we stopped at the water again and talked about longing and thirsting for God from Psalms 42 and 63. I encouraged them that if they want to satisfy their souls they have to spend time in the word.

  • Then we stopped at the playground and talked about playing together and being a family of believers. I read Ephesians 3:14-21 and we talked about learning and understanding God's love as a group. Then I left them on their own to talk and pray. One of the girls had talked to me about wanting to have each of the girls share their fears. She took the opportunity when I left to do that. I told them they could walk or run back but they had to hold hands the whole way. It was fun to watch them come back up to the house holding hands. I think it was a really sweet time of focus for them.
