After a match in which we really struggled, we had a much better night. I took the captains aside and talked to them about their roles. The main thing being that they have the emotional control. I told them that there isn't anyone to look to anymore. I asked how often they knew that KM (our former setter and captain). was down on herself. They said rarely. I told them no matter how they feel they HAVE TO be the one that stays up emotionally. We talked about as leaders the have to serve because that's what Jesus did and told us to do. That service plays out on the court as not playing attention to how they feel but focusing on what their teammates need. Other things they mentioned as important were working hard in practice and setting as example and being inclusive. YES! Be an example to the others. We don't need everyone to be emotional leaders, only a few.
